This is a good example of how graphic design and image making goes hand in hand with the music industry. What attracted me about this one was the process and quality of print. I really liked the fact that the average paper size wasn't within the considerations and that there has been a link that is really easily understood as to why she has made this choice in relations to the content of her illustrations. Another really clever thing that I want to be able to have a similar approach within my own work is her use of promotional material and the way in which she has printed onto tree and used objects that have a clear link and connection with the brand identity that she has chosen to go for. It's all really conistant and well presented. I like how it doesn't conform to the norm in that way and is open to interpretation.
This is another collection I found in which an illustrator has looked into lyrics that spoke to him and allowed his to experiement with type and image. There is a clear link between them all which I find really interesting. The visual approach and choice of colours or medium however lacks a bit of quality and originality in my opinion, in the sense that is all things that have been seen before, nothing new or exciting is being offered as oppsed to mc bess which holds something solid and very representative of a generation, which is really the approach I am going for. Also the use of a plasitc case seems a bit too mainstream of for the medim and process I have decided to look into I think this work has shown me that it would be more appropriate if I came up with another more original solution.
This was an live brief put into place which allowed the public to use their favourite lyrics and with the aid of typography produce their won internpretation of it. This is aimed at a mainstream generalised audience, in which most of them have no considertation of the use of type, colour, size ect. It is interesting to look at the choices made and how that related to the interprestation of music. What I found really good about this is the fact that it is another very interactive way to engage with the audience and encourage creativity. It's a good online alternative which might be more appropriate to todays generation and to the online music business and its down fall. Proposing something that allows audiences to interact with the music on another level.
Mc Bess is an illustrator / Visual artist I have been looking into for some time now and that I have a found admiration for. He is a really good reference point for this module as most of what he works within is the music indusrty and interpretation of music. I looked at a music video he had done as part of the moving image module as I really found he has a particualar approach not only visually but also in the feelings that he is able to communicate within this. The example of work I have decided to look at this time shows how is illustrations and approach to type, which is also in a very similar direction I want to investigate, works across a range of different mediums and surfaces. There is the classical and typical examples of a tee-shirt and clothing, but when he pushes things furthur is when they are put onto not so ordinary objects like guitars and the axe.
